Katherine Marbury Scott was a seventeenth century woman who distinguished herself in the cause of freedom. A native of England, she settled in Boston, moving to Salem due to religious persecutions, and finally to Rhode Island. Inspired by the heritage and teachings of her father, a London minister of the Established Church, Katherine and her sister Ann Marbury Hutchinson, joined others to fight for the right of religious freedom. The Chapter was organized 6 December 1975 with fifteen members. The Katherine Marbury Scott Chapter was formally chartered on 28 March 1979 in Johnson City, Tennessee. Today, this upper east Tennessee chapter is one of the largest chapters in Tennessee.
